Ischemic heart diseases were the most common cause of death in Brazil in 2017. This particular illness is caused by narrowing of heart arteries which affect the supply of oxygen and blood to the heart. People suffering from it can have heart attacks. As of 2016, Ischemic heart diseases are also the leading cause of death worldwide, followed by deaths due to stroke and COPD.
Diabetes in Brazil
When it comes to diabetes, the epidemic disease is prevalent in the Brazilian society. In 2017, it was responsible for 26% of the total deaths in Brazil. In addition, the country has the fifth highest number of diabetics around the globe as of 2019. More than 50,000 children suffer from type 1 diabetes in Brazil and as of 2019, the diabetes health expenditure in Brazil amounted to over US$50 billion.
