Japan: length of standard-improved roads

As of March 31, 2021, the length of standard-improved roads amounted to approximately 788 thousand kilometers, representing an increase from around 751 thousand kilometers in 2012. The standard refers to qualitative criteria (width, alignment, inclination, visibility, etc.) as stipulated by the Ordinance on Road Structure designated roads are required to meet.
