Supplementary notes

* Figures include both human and physical capital costs as well as GDP loss. The source describes human costs as direct costs borne by victims, such as medical or repair costs and indirect costs such as lost productivity, lost earnings and psychological trauma, while physical costs taken into consideration include damage to physical capital, such as transport and commercial infrastructure and buildings. GDP loss can be caused by the destruction of factors of production, increased investment in national security instead of economic production, a slight increase in consumption and a decreased inflow of resources from abroad because of the risk involved.
