Percentage of domestic and cross-border purchases among online shoppers in the Netherlands from 2014 to 2018*
Distribution of domestic and cross-border e-commerce in the Netherlands 2014-2018
This statistic shows the answers to a survey question asking consumers in the Netherlands if they made their online purchases from 2014 to 2018 either from a domestic e-commerce retailer or from a web shop located in a foreign country. As of 2018, approximately 50 percent of the respondents indicated they would only do their online shopping from a domestic online retailer. This is a decrease when compared to 2016, when 63 percent of the respondents indicated to do so.

Unlike many other countries in Europe, Amazon is not active in the Netherlands. Instead, the e-commerce company uses a partially translated version of their German website to appeal to the Dutch audience. Within the Netherlands, Bol.com and Coolblue are the leading webshops, with revenues reaching respectively 1.22 billion euros and 844 million euros in 2017.
