Light-duty trucks are the main source of transport-related emissions in the United States, accounting over 37 percent of the total in 2021. The second-largest contributor to the transportation sector emissions that year were medium and heavy-duty trucks. Meanwhile, passenger cars represented some 20.7 percent of the U.S. transport emissions in 2021.
