Opinion on whether a French soccer player should win the Ballon d'Or in France 2018
The Ballon d'Or (or Golden Ball in English) is an annual soccer award presented by French weekly magazine, France Football. The Ballon d'Or has been awarded since 1956. Players like Johan Cruyff, Franz Beckenbauer, Zinedine Zidane or Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite, commonly known as Kaká, have won the trophy. In recent years, Portuguese player Cristiano Ronaldo and Argentinian Lionel Messi have dominated the ceremony. They have won the award a record five times each.
Between 2010 and 2015 an agreement was made between FIFA and France Football. The Ballon d'Or award was temporarily merged with the FIFA World player of the Year. The partnership ended in 2016.
