Denmark: top pharmaceutical companies by revenue 2022

Novo Nordisk earned by far the highest revenues among the Danish pharmaceutical companies in 2022, with over 177 billion Danish kroner. Based on number of employees, Novo Nordisk was also the largest pharmaceutical company and the second largest Danish company in general, with nearly 48 thousand employees.

Novo Nordisk’s focus

   What products does Novo Nordisk make? The company’s key focus is diabetes medicine and treatments, such as diabetes pens and needles. Though, they also develop and manufacture pharmaceuticals for other serious chronic diseases, such as hemophilia, growth disorders and obesity. The company’s investments on research and development fluctuated during recent years, and reached 13.6 percent of total expenditure in 2022, showing a steady increase since 2019.   

The second largest company

   H. Lundbeck is the second largest pharmaceutical company in Denmark, in terms of total revenues. Their focus areas are pharmaceuticals to treat psychiatric and neurologic diseases, and the product that generated their highest revenue in 2022 was Brintellix/Trintellix, used for treatment of major depressive disorder.
