In 2021, the annual number of deaths caused by perinatal diseases in Spain amounted to 528 deaths, up from 518 casualties reported a year prior. However, this figure experienced an overall downward trend since 2006, when deaths from perinatal conditions reached 911 cases. Perinatal diseases result from the direct transmission of the illness from the mother to the newborn while still in the uterus or after birth.
