A recent survey from Statista also found that while 40 percent of males stated they do not have sleeping problems, such as trouble sleeping through the night or trouble falling asleep, only 27 percent of females stated they do not have such problems. The most commonly reported negative impacts of missing sleep include looking tired, feeling moody or irritable and feeling less motivated.

The OTC sleep aid market has grown significantly in the past few years due to the high prevalence of sleep disorders, reporting revenue of about 416 million U.S. dollars in 2017, almost double the revenue reported in 2011.
