BNSF Railway - Facts & Figures

BNSF Railway is a North American Class I freight railroad, playing a major role in the development of the freight railroad industry in the United States. With a rail network of 32,500 route miles, it connects businesses to each other in 28 states in U.S. and three Canadian provinces.
With over 20 billion U.S. dollars in operating revenue every year, the company hauls a range of products from consumer to coal, agricultural or industrial commodities. Its major share of revenue comes from the consumer products sector such as automotive; every 11 seconds a new car is loaded onto a BNSF train. In 2018, the railroad hauled almost two million carloads of industrial products and just over 1.9 million carloads of coal products.

BNSF Railway is often ranked among the best Class I freight rail companies; in 2017, it was the second most punctual railroad after Canadian Pacific Railway. Its key competitor, Union Pacific, reports annually freight revenue to the value of more than 21.3 billion U.S. dollars from loading commodities like coal, chemicals or agricultural products.
