The United Kingdom, Italy, France and Germany were four of the most popular destinations for Chinese tourists that year, with the largest share of nights spent in the UK. The UK experienced a significant rise in visitors from China in 2015, over 40 percentage points above the average inbound tourism rate. Since then, tourism from China has remained high, firmly placing China as an important inbound market for Britain. Chinese tourist expenditure in the UK peaked in 2017 at 694 million British pounds.
