Just Eat is a part of the restaurant-to-consumer delivery segment of the online food delivery market. Consumers use the Just Eat app or website to search for restaurants offering take out services and order food from them online. Unlike other platforms that incorporate a delivery service (e.g. Deliveroo), the delivery of food ordered via the Just Eat platform is conducted by the restaurant themselves, with Just Eat acting as an aggregator between restaurants and consumers. As of 2018, Just Eat had 105 thousand restaurant partners worldwide and 26.3 million active users.
The biggest market for Just Eat by far is the UK, with over 122 million orders processed there in 2018 alone. Other established markets include Canada, where the brand operates under its subsidiary company ‘Skip the Dishes’, representing 22.8 percent of the Just Eat’s revenues in 2018. The brand has also been developing in other European markets including Denmark, Ireland, France, Italy, Norway, Switzerland and Spain, where the latter had over 8,000 restaurants partners in 2017. Just Eat also bought and subsequently owns the platform Menulog in Australia and New Zealand, which contributed almost 47 million British pounds in revenue for Just Eat plc in 2018.
