Shipyards in Turkey employed 27,189 people in 2017 and delivered 21 ships that same year. In addition to newly built ships, shipyards were also responsible for 21 million deadweight tons of repair and maintenance output in 2017, with figures having stayed relatively stable in the past three years.
Between 2011 and 2018, exports of cruise ships and similar ships for transport of goods and passengers were worth a total 4.46 billion U.S. dollars. In 2018, annual exports of these ships valued at 502.3 million U.S. dollars. By comparison, that same year, tugs and pusher crafts worth 149.5 million U.S. dollars had been exported by Turkey.
