Pet insurance market for cats and dogs in the Netherlands 2018
According to studies, only four percent of pets have an insurance in the Netherlands. This low market size is supported by a survey, which asked pet owners if they had an insurance for their cat, dog or both their animals. Dog owners in the Netherlands appeared to be more inclined to purchase an insurance for their pets than cat owners in 2018. Of the owners who indicated they bought an insurance, over 50 percent owned a dog. Cat owners made up roughly 25 percent of this insured group. However, the number of insured animals was significantly lower than the number of uninsured pets, especially for cats.
