Child mortality in Bosnia and Herzegovina 1895-2020
The child mortality rate in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1895 was 379 children per 1,000 live births; this meant that almost forty percent of all children born in this year were not expected to make it to their fifth birthday. The rate of decline was slow until the 1920s, however it then dropped from 365 deaths per thousand births to just 21 over the next seventy years. There was a slight increase in Bosnia and Herzegovina's child mortality rate in the 1990s (this was the only increase during this 125 year period), due to the outbreak of the Bosnian War, however it has continued to fall until 2020, where it is just 7 deaths per thousand births today.
