Total expenses non-life insurance firms in Europe 2017-2018, by country
Expense ratios indicate how total expenses relate to premiums earned. While Germany, France and the United Kingdom (UK) are the largest non-life insurance markets, the Netherlands, Iceland and Liechtenstein are the ones with the lowest expense ratios.
Non-life insurance includes property, motor, accident, general liability, legal, marine, aviation and transit insurance. In 2018, the insurance companies in Germany's non-life segment registered the highest total expenses at approximately 35.8 billion euros.
