Approval of how journalists use social media in the U.S. 2019
The vast majority of Americans approve of journalists using social media when used to promote facts. A survey showed 92 percent of respondents approve the use of social media to correct false or misleading statements made by politicians. Interaction with the public is also considered acceptable, with 93 percent of Americans approving of journalists answering questions about their published work on social media. However, many felt that the interactions should be kept professional, with 65 percent of respondents disapproving of journalists sharing their personal views about the news of the day.
