Japan: distribution of new home loans by purpose

According to a survey among private financial institutions in Japan, 73.4 percent of new housing loans granted to individuals in fiscal year 2021 were directed at financing new homes. Around 5.8 percent of new loans were issued for the purpose of refinancing housing loans.
