In 2019, most primary care physicians in the United States were men. In some specialties, however, female physicians were more common than men. Geriatrics and pediatrics were specialties where primary care physicians were predominantly female in the United States. For instance, two-thirds of primary care physicians who specialized in pediatrics were women. Nonetheless, only 26 percent of physicians who specialized in general practice in the U.S. were female in 2019.
