Global emission trading revenue by system 2023

Almost 74 billion U.S. dollars was raised from global emissions trading systems (ETS) in 2023. The European Union Emission Trading System (EU ETS) raised the most revenue that year by far, at 47 billion U.S. dollars. The United Kingdom was previously part of the EU ETS, but replaced this system with the UK ETS after withdrawing from the EU. The UK ETS generated over five billion U.S. dollars of revenue in 2023.

Revenues collected by the Canada federal OBPS are reported only until 2020. Data for Newfoundland and Labrador, Saskatchewan and Alberta are only reported until 2022. Data on New Brunswick and on Ontario were not yet publicly available at the time of publication.
