The gateway port of Durban in South Africa had the highest number of containers in the South African Development Community (SADC) in 2017, amounting to 2,710 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). In 2040, the volume is expected to reach 5,860 TEUs. The Dar es Salaam port in Zimbabwe followed, with 660 TEUs as of 2017, forecast at 2,900 TEUs in 2040.
