Japan: share of payment methods used by payment amount 2022

In a survey conducted in November 2022, around 49 percent of consumers in Japan reported using cash for payments of up to 1,000 yen. While QR code payment services were the leading cashless payment method for purchases of up to 1,000 yen, respondents preferred credit cards for all other payment amounts.
