Depression risk among adults in China 2022, by age group

A survey conducted in 2022 concluded that Chinese adults under the age of 24 were more susceptible to depression, with almost a quarter at risk of the disease. Meanwhile, less than one in 20 people between 35 and 44 years old were at risk of developing depression.

42.5 percent of the respondents were male, while 57.5 percent were female. The average age of the respondents was 36.0 years. 66.6 percent of all respondents lived in urban areas. 47 percent of all respondents were residents in the eastern region, while residents from the central, western, and northeastern regions accounted for 24.4 percent, 23.9 percent, and 4.7 percent respectively.
