Central bank assets in Europe 2002-2022

Despite a slight decrease in the financial assets on the balance sheet of Deutsche Bundesbank, it remained the largest central bank in Europe, with assets worth roughly 2.9 trillion euros in 2022. Bank of France followed, with total assets worth 1.89 trillion euros. Bank of Italy ranked third, but Bank of England and Bank of Spain also reported more than one trillion euros worth of assets at the end of 2022.

This statistic is based on the largest central banks by total assets in Europe in 2022. Figures for 2022 were calculated by Statista using figures published by each central bank. Figures were converted from various currencies to euros based on annual average exchange rates. Figures prior to 2022 were collected from the Global Monitoring Report on Non-Bank Financial Intermediation.
