Cashless payment service ownership rate in Japan 2022, by method
Contact-type credit cards were the most owned non-cash means of payment in Japan according to a survey conducted in November 2022. Around 82 percent of respondents owned contact-type credit cards, while the share of consumers owning contactless tap to pay credit cards was much lower at 42 percent. Credit cards were followed by electronic money and QR code payment apps, with an ownership rate of 73 percent.
