India: budget allocation for PMAY 2024

In the fiscal year 2022, the central government of India allocated a budget of 900 billion Indian rupees for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). Since the launch of the scheme, the budget had gradually increased from 116 billion Indian rupees in financial year 2016 to 900 billion Indian rupees in fiscal year 2022. It was estimated to decrease over the following two years. PMAY was launched with the objective of making provision for affordable housing the poor people living in urban areas.
