End-stage kidney disease (ESKD)

The study included all decedents with CKD (N18) as a contributing cause of mortality. The main cause of mortality in decedents with any CKD and ESKD was categorized into CV (I*), genitourinary (N*), endocrine (E*), malignancy (C*, D00-D49), infections (A*-B*), and gastrointestinal (K*).

The Multiple Cause of Death database accessed through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Wide-Ranging, Online Data for Epidemiologic Research (CDC WONDER) was used by the study. 

Database comprises mortality for US residents and population count from all US counties between 1999 and 2020.
