This statistic shows the 2019 ranking of the 15 leading global oil and gas companies based on revenue. The values are based on the 2019 Financial Times Equity list of the leading global companies. U.S. oil and gas company ExxonMobil was ranked fifth that year, with a total 2018 revenue of some 275.5 billion U.S. dollars.

The United Kingdom’s Royal Dutch Shell and BP are among the world’s largest oil and gas companies, earning revenues of 382.97 billion U.S. dollars and 296.97 billion U.S. dollars respectively in 2018, according to the 2019 FT ranking. Royal Dutch Shell, more commonly known as Shell, produced about 600.2 million barrels of oil and gas liquids in 2018. Shell was founded in 1907 and is headquartered in The Hague, Netherlands and in London, United Kingdom. Shell is vertically integrated in the oil and gas industry and is a part of exploration, production, refining, and power generation, among other aspects of the industry. In 2014, Shell held off on their initial 2012 plans to drill into the Arctic waters near Alaska, citing that there was a lack of clarity in shale exploration in the United States.

The Sinopec Group in China is one of the world’s most profitable companies as well as one of the largest oil and gas companies. In 2018, the company generated 432.54 billion U.S. dollars in revenue. Headquartered in Beijing, the company is also known as China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation. The company focuses on aspects of the oil and gas industry such as petroleum and petrochemical engineering projects, exploration and production of oil and natural gas, as well as storage and transportation.
