Penetration of leading social networks in Turkey Q3 2023

The most used social network in the third quarter of 2023 in Turkey was Instagram, with almost 92 percent penetration rate, followed by WhatsApp with over 91 percent. The presented information is an extrapolation of data gained during a survey and represents users' claimed activity.

How common is the social media usage?

     Since the internet and smartphone usage has been widespread in modern society, social media has become an essential part of many people's lives. Also, in Turkey, the number of social media users showed an upward trend since 2020 and totaled over 67 million users in 2022. In the same year, the penetration of social networks increased to approximately 75 percent. According to the Statista Digital Market Outlook, social media penetration is forecast to reach 86 percent in 2026.

User demographics

    One of the most used social media platforms in Turkey, Facebook is mainly popular amongst men aged between 18 and 34 years old. Men in that age group make up one-third of the total platform users. Moreover, 17 percent of the Instagram users represented men between 25 and 34 years old, while 11 percent were women of the same age group.
