Consumer expenditure on video entertainment in the U.S. 2017-2020, by segment
In the fourth quarter of 2020, 68.1 percent of consumer spending on home entertainment went towards pay TV, up from 65.7 percent in the beginning of the year. However, in recent years, consumer spending on pay TV generally declined. Meanwhile, spending on other home video services like SVOD and vMVPDs grew, with the share of spending on these entertainment services growing from 15.9 percent in the first quarter of 2017 to over 31 percent as of the last quarter of 2020.
