Currently there are almost 51 thousand open and running accommodation establishments in Germany, with roughly 478 million overnight stays recorded in 2018. Germany is among the ten leading travel destinations worldwide, besides France, Spain and the USA. The share of overnight stays completed by guests from abroad is highest in hotels. Large cities in particular profit from this development. In 2018, roughly 15 million foreign guests spent the night in Berlin. In total, the accommodation establishments in the German capital counted almost 33 million overnight stays that year.
With roughly 195 million overnight stays in hotels in 2018, it is is so far the most used type of accommodation in Germany. Hotels with 30 to 99 beds were most common on the German hotel market. The average net price for a hotel room in Germany is 93.6 euros per night. The revenue per available room (RevPAR) amounted to 65 euros. The Estrel Berlin generated 73.5 million worth of revenue in 2018, and was the most profitable hotel in Germany.
