The venture established by Toyota and Mazda is seen as an agreement among Japan’s top automotive players to collaborate on affordable electric vehicle technologies to catch up with international rivals’ production of battery-powered cars.

Subaru’s aerospace division serves as a defense contractor to the Japanese government, utilizing technologies for unmanned aerial vehicles. In the passenger aircraft sector, Subaru acts as a global development and manufacturing partner to Boeing. Furthermore, the company is Japan’s only manufacturer of attack helicopters, contracted by the Japanese Ministry of Defense (MOD) to develop helicopters for the Ground Self-Defense Force.
The aerospace segment has demonstrated strong growth in the last few years, generating almost 139 billion Japanese yen in sales in fiscal year 2017, up from about 89 billion yen in fiscal 2013.
