The Toyota Motor Corporation’s net revenue reached a record 30 trillion Japanese yen in the fiscal year ended March 2019. This figure is approximately equal to 270 billion U.S. dollars. Toyota sold 10.6 million motor vehicles during the 2019 fiscal year, a 1.6 percent increase on the previous fiscal year.

 Big in Japan

  In 2018, Toyota was ranked as the most valuable corporate brand in Japan. At almost 17 trillion yen, Japan was Toyota’s largest market in 2019. Between January and December, Japanese customers bought around 1.5 million Toyota-branded cars: almost one third of total sales.

Toyota is also one of the largest employers in its home country. More than 370,000 employees were on the carmaker’s payroll during the 2019 fiscal year. In 2017, the auto manufacturing heavyweight acquired a minority stake in its Japanese peer, Mazda. Between 2005 and 2006, Toyota had already taken stake in a company that is now known as Subaru Corporation. The two automakers are planning to collaborate closely on electric powertrains in the next couple years.
