Italy: leading health insurance companies 2022

In 2022, insurance companies collected almost four billion euros in gross written premiums from health insurance policies in Italy. Three companies stood out, all reaching above 500 million euros in gross written premiums each: Generali Italia, Unisalute, and Intesa Sanpaolo RBM Salute. In particular, Generali Italia recorded the highest value of health insurance gross written premiums, with over 607 million euros, corresponding to 16.4 percent of the total Italian market for health insurance written premiums. This result represented a growth of 5.3 percent in premiums revenue compared to the previous year.

In Italy health insurance is divided into sickness insurance and injury insurance. "Sickness insurance policies provide financial aid in case of sickness, but not of violent injuries. They can be individually or collectively subscribed and they cover medical expenses, hospitalizations and permanent disabilities resulting from diseases."
