The average franchise value of National Football League teams has consistently increased over the years. From 2000 to 2008, the average value of a NFL franchise has more than doubled from 423 million U.S. dollars to more than one billion U.S. dollars and, by 2019, the average value passed the 2.8 billion dollar mark. The NFL has always had the highest average franchise value amongst all sports leagues in the U.S. For instance, in 2018, Major League Baseball (MLB) teams were valued at an average of 1.65 billion U.S. dollars, while the National Basketball Association (NBA) also reached an average value of 1.65 billion U.S. dollars per franchise that same year.
The five-time Super Bowl champion Dallas Cowboys is the most valuable franchise in the NFL with a franchise value of 5.5 billion U.S. dollars. The New England Patriots, team from the greater Boston region led by quarterback Tom Brady, is ranked second in regards to franchise value. The New York Giants, Los Angeles Rams, and San Francisco 49ers complete the list of top five most valuable NFL franchises. The least valuable franchise in the NFL is the Buffalo Bills with a value of 1.9 billion U.S. dollars, which still more than the estimated average value of teams in MLB.
