Global international shipping GHG emission reduction targets 2030-2050
In 2023, member states of the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) adopted a revised strategy to slash international shipping GHG emissions to net zero by or around 2050. To reach this target, countries agreed to reduce international shipping emissions by at least 20 percent by 2030, relative to 2008 levels. This increases to at least 70 percent by 2040, but pushing toward 80 percent.
