Global merchant fleet CO₂ emissions 2012-2022, by month
Carbon dioxide emissions from the world's merchant fleet have risen more than 20 percent since 2012, with annualized monthly emissions reaching 847 million tons in April 2022. There was a notable decline in emissions in early 2020 after the outbreak of COVID-19, but emissions from the maritime fleet rebounded in the second half of the year.
